Harvard Yard
Men's Style, Spotlight — By Ramon Cruz on November 20, 2009 at 11:38 PMHarvard, as in the school, is coming out with its own clothing line! Well, sort of. They’ve licensed their name to the clothing manufacturer Wearwolf Group, who will use it for a line of preppy collegiate clothing. The line was inspired by photographs of Harvard students from the 1950’s and 60’s (you know, kind of like these). And even though it bears the Harvard Yard name, the Harvard logo and shield will not be present on any of the clothes – although it’s trademark crimson school color will make it’s way into many of the designs.
This is pretty exciting, and I’m all about new brands, but the price points are a bit high for college students (think $160 shirts and $490 sport coats) and it feels a little gimmicky. The royalties for its name, however, will go towards Harvard’s undergraduate financial aid program to help neglected and underprivileged children (like yours truly) get a college education. And who better to handle ivy league fashion than the premiere ivy league school itself. The men’s line will debut in January or February, with women’s and children’s line to appear later on.
